January - February 2010

Local Service District

Well Old Man Winter is sure being kind to us so far this year. Now that the festive season has come and gone, we hope everyone had a great holiday and wish everyone health and prosperity in 2010. With the New Year started, don't forget to keep commitment to those resolutions you made.

Beginning this year the LSD Committee will continue to work on issues that have been previously started as well as begin new ones.

Recycle Bin
Tabusintac is the latest community to have a residential recycling bin. It was placed at the Tabusintac Coop last week. Items accepted include all rigid plastics with a #1 and #2 recycle symbol, all metal cans, paper, cardboard and plastic bags.

There is a number on the side of the bin to call when full and there is a sign outside of the depot that outlines what is/isn't accepted. Styrofoam and glass would top the list of items that ARE NOT recyclable in the bin.

Tabusintac Watershed AssociationTabby/watershedlo.gif
The TWA would like to thank those whom participated in this year's project "Inventory of Freshwater Mussels in the Tabusintac River Watershed". Due to the weather this summer, it was difficult to meet our goal of survey sites but have completed eleven sites within the watershed. As to date we have found two different species of mussels and counted over a total of 2000 individual mussels from the eleven sites. TWA wishes to continue with this project in the upcoming years because it reflects the water quality in the area and directly correlates with specific fish presence; for example, trout and salmon.
This project would have not been possible without the help of:

Jokes of the Month

A Thoughtful Valentine's Day Gift

Jim asked his friend, Tony, whether he had bought his wife anything for Valentine's Day.
'Yes,' came the answer from Tony who was a bit of a chauvinist, 'I've bought her a belt and a bag.'
'That was very kind of you,' Jim added, 'I hope she appreciated the thought.'
Tony smiled as he replied, 'So do I, and hopefully the vacuum cleaner will work better now.'

My One And Only
Roger, who was 19 years old, was buying an expensive bracelet, to surprise his girlfriend on Valentine's Day, at a very smart jeweller's shop in Hatton Garden, London.
The jeweller inquired, 'Would you like your girlfriend's name engraved on it?'
Roger thought for a moment, grinned, then answered, 'No, instead engrave "To my one and only love".'
The jeweller smiled and said, 'Yes, sir; how very romantic of you.'
Roger retorted with a glint in his eye, 'Not exactly romantic, but very practical. This way, if we break up, I can use it again.'
