Recycle Bin
Tabusintac is the latest community to have a residential recycling bin. It was placed at the Tabusintac Coop last week. Items accepted include all rigid plastics with a #1 and #2 recycle symbol, all metal cans, paper, cardboard and plastic bags.
There is a number on the side of the bin to call when full and there is a sign outside of the depot that outlines what is/isn't accepted. Styrofoam and glass would top the list of items that ARE NOT recyclable in the bin.

The Celebration of the tree lighting is December 18, 2009 at 6:00. Music and lunch will follow the lighting. Also don't forget the surprise birthday party for Malcolm at 9:00 the same evening.

Merry Christmas!

In Appreciation:
Heather (Stymiest) and Julia Driscoll would like to express our deepest gratitude to the community of Tabusintac and surrounding areas for the Benefit Supper for Amanda held on November 14th. Our sincere thanks to Reverend Gillis Smith and Stan MacDonald for assisting in Amanda's Memorial Service on November 28th. Thank you to all who sent flowers, food, cards, donations, monetary gifts, phone calls and those who just had us in your thoughts and prayers. To our relatives and friends, thank you for surrounding us with your love and support during this difficult time. Anyone who touched our lives and Amanda's will forever be in our memory and hearts. Amanda was a very loving and courageous 13 year old girl who will be forever loved and missed by her family, friends and especially by her younger sister, Julia and her loving dog Maple.

Recipe of the Month

Icebox Cookies
Serves/Makes: 4 dozen Ready In: 2-5 hrs

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup red and green cherries, chopped
1 cup walnuts or pecans,or almonds toasted, chopped

Directions:
Heat oven to 375.

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla. Stir in flour and mix well. Add cherries and nuts and mix until blended.

Shape into 4 rolls measuring about 6" X 1-1/2". Wrap well in heavy plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm. When ready to bake, remove from fridge and cut into 1/4" slices. Bake on parchment lined cookie sheets for 10 minutes or until lightly golden.

Christmas Baking Tips

When doing your baking this Christmas season, and always, the mess is so much easier to clean up if you lay out sheets of waxed paper on your counters before you begin. When you are done, most of the mess just picks up with the sheets of waxed paper! Big time saver for me!...

A pizza cutter makes quick work of cutting fudge or toffee. If the candy is sticky, spray it with a little cooking spray firstWhen baking, in order to remember which ingredients have been put into your bowl do this: Place all items to the left of your bowl. As you use them; move to the right of your bowl. You'll know what you've already placed in the bowl and everything on the right is ready to wipe down and put away

Jokes of the Month
What A Girl Wants For Christmas
The Santa Claus at the shopping mall was very surprised when a Emily, young lady aged about 20 years old walked up and sat on his lap. Now, we all know that Santa doesn't usually take requests from adults, but she smiled very nicely at him, so he asked her, 'What do you want for Christmas?'
'Something for my mother, please,' replied Emily sweetly.
'Something for your mother? Well, that's very loving and thoughtful of you,' smiled Santa. 'What do would you like me to bring her?'
Without turning a hair Emily answered quickly, 'A son-in-law.'

Reindeer's Story at Christmas
According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.
Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.
We should have known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

Tabusintac Country Market
The vendors and committee of the Tabusintac Country Market want to thank everyone for their support during the 2009 season.
Non-profit organizations were able to raise much needed funds for many good causes in our community.
We are happy the market is continuing to be a success and we are looking forward to the 2010 season. The first day of the market will be Saturday, June 5.
Best wishes for the holiday season and we'll "See you at the market."
