ST. ANDREWS UNITED CHURCH
HOW TO BE A FRIEND TO SOMEONE WHO IS DYING: When someone knows they are
dying everything changes for them. They experience emotions and wrestle with issues
they never dealt with before. How do we be a friend? How do we help? How do we walk
with someone on this final journey? Join us as we conclude a sermon series
"How to be a friend to someone who is dying."

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) gives a
clear picture of God's desire for us to help those in desperate need wherever we find them.
After describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus
told His hearers, "Go and do likewise." With Operation Christmas Child we can do just that
with shoe boxes that we can fill with ordinary items, we can make a difference in the lives of
children for whom these items are EXTRAordinary. Shoe boxes and brochures are available
at the back of the church. Please read the brochure regarding suitable items to pack. Use
rubber bands rather than tape to close the boxes. Please return the shoe boxes by

News from Tabusintac Women's Institute
The Tabusintac W.I. would like to thank Janice Russell, Edna Price, Betty Blake, Bernice
Strang, Myrna Ross, Catherine Wishart and Lois Martin for their generosity. Each of these
ladies contributed a jar of their own pickles to assist us in our drive to attain a special
Christmas "taste of home" for the sailors on board HMCS Fredericton. At Christmas this
Canadian warship will be on duty in the Persian Gulf. The Tabusintac Women's Institute along
with other WI Branches in our province delivered the Christmas treats to Fredericton. From there
the treats were taken to Camp Gagetown and then on to Halifax in October.
The Sailors had assured the W.I. that food aboard HMCS Fredericton was excellent but that
they would appreciate some "homemade" preserves. Our own members contributed bottles of pickled beets, relishes etc. and 7.33 kg of candy, nuts and fruit valued at over $80.00. The two
boxes were packed for shipment. It is our prayer that our Canadian military -land, sea and air,
has a safe and happy Christmas. And again, a thank you to those who helped us in this
particular project.
Also, at this time, a belated but sincere to Kaye Grant and the Common Thread Quilters. Without these ladies we would not have been able to send the beautiful "Quilt of Valor". Kaye designed
and put together the beautiful flying goose with the flying geese around it. When finished and pictures taken it was displayed to the W.I. ladies. We were thrilled with the quilt and grateful for
their help. The "Quilt of Valor" was sent to Gagetown Military Camp via the W.I. Provincial office in Fredericton. At our District Convention in Blackville in August we learned that 80 quilts had been sent from W.I. Branches around N.B. Each quilt would be presented to a wounded veteran from
the "Afghanistan Conflict. It is our way of saying thank-you.
The Tabusintac W. I. Will meet on November 10th at the Seniors Complex.

Join the Tabusintac Women's Institute as they serve Breakfast at the Community Market
on November 21st, 2009.

Thank You
Thank you so very much to all those who helped make my 103rd birthday such a happy and memorable occasion.
All the lovely cards, gifts and calls we so much appreciated-along with the pleasure of visiting
with so many dear friends and family both at the delightful afternoon tea at the Tabusintac
Nursing Home and in the evening at Chez Raymonds.
Again, Many thanks and God Bless you -each one
Sincerely, Nellie Harris

Jokes of the Month

WOMEN'S REVENGE
'Cash, check or charge?' I asked, after folding items the woman wished to purchase.
As she fumbled for her wallet, I noticed a remote control for a television set in her purse.
'So, do you always carry your TV remote?' I asked.
'No,' she replied, 'but my husband refused to come shopping with me,
and I figured this was the most evil thing I could do to him legally

UNDERSTANDING WOMEN
(A MAN'S PERSPECTIVE)
I know I'm not going to understand women.
I'll never understand how you can take boiling hot wax,
pour it onto your upper thigh, rip the hair out by the root,
and still be afraid of a spider.

Recipe of the Month
Apple Cheese Cake
Ingredients:
16 ounces of softened cream cheese.
4 cups of apple slices, peeled and sliced thinly (2-3 apples).
1 cup of graham cracker (or other biscuit) crumbs.
Three amounts of sugar: 3 tablespoons, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup.
1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
3 tablespoons of melted margarine .
2 medium eggs.
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
1/2 cup of chopped pecans.
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F (175C).

Combine the graham cracker crumbs, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and
melted margarine, and mix well.

Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate to form the crust.
Bake for about 10 minutes.

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and 1/2 cup of sugar until well blended. Add the eggs,
one at a time, and beat after each is added. Blend in the vanilla, and pour the mixture into
prepared crust.

In a large bowl, combine 1/3 cup of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon.
Add the apples and toss to coat. Spoon the apples over top of the cheesecake filling. Sprinkle
the pecans over the apples. Put back into the oven and bake for an hour. Chill, then serve.
