Tabusintac Local Service
Today is Remembrance Day and
we had a large turnout at the Legion for a time of remembering..It is always a moving ceremony when we honor the people who so freely sacrificed their lives (and those who continue
to do so) to win (and keep) our freedoms. It was especially touching today as we were able to see pictures
of those for whom we paid tribute. Thanks to those who donated the pictures and especially to April who arranged and
delivered the presentation. It impacted a deeper sense of reality to the events which now seem so far away. Upcoming events:
the current work at the rest area is almost complete. Come and see the difference. The Lighthouse construction should begin
in the very near future. The market will open November 15 and run until December 15. Breakfast will continue
for the same time. The Christmas Tree lighting will take place December 1 at 7:00 p.m. Breakfast with Santa will be on December 6.

The TWA is still
working on their current project "Measuring the Ecological Footprint of Waterfront Property in the Tabusintac Watershed".
Land that lies beside water is very important for the protection of your property by reducing erosion and sedimentation and
it also degrades water quality. This piece of land also provides habitat for native wildlife and flora; which is necessary
to maintain a healthy watershed. If you would like more information or have suggestions on Best Management Practices please
do not hesitate to the TWA.
I also would like to take Adam Campbell from Ducks Unlimited for his presentation at our

ST.
ANDREW'S UNITED CHURCH
THE PURPOSES OF CHRISTMAS - In a few
weeks we will all be busy baking, sending cards, chopping down trees, and decorating our houses. But is strolling through
Wal-Mart trying to give like Santa but save like Scrooge what this season all about? Did God send us His Son so that we could
worry in January about what we spent in December? Starting on Sunday, December 07, join us as we begin
a three week sermon series talking about the purposes of Christmas.
LET IN THE LIGHT -- St. Andrew's
will be having its annual Christmas Cantata, on Saturday, December 13 @ 7:00 pm. Join us as we
celebrate and evening filled with music, story, and song in celebration of the miracle for the entire family. A free
will donation will be accepted with 100% of the proceeds going to a local family.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD:
In your life you can do three things. You can make money. You can make a reputation. You can make a difference. Operation
Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes. By
supporting Operation Christmas Child, you are able to make a difference in the lives of the children who need your help the
most. Shoe boxes and brochures are available at the back of the church. Please return the shoe boxes by November 23.
CHRISTMAS STAMPS: This year this stamp features a Madonna and Child that were engraved from
lime wood by Italian-Canadian sculptor Antonio Caruso. The Catholic Church and the Protestant denominations across Canada
have had to lobby to maintain a Christian stamp for the holidays. It is hoped and encouraged that we will use this stamp when
sending our Christmas cards so that the Christian Message that Christ has come to all people can be sent from us to our loved
ones.
AROUND THE MANGER Starting on Tuesday,
November 25 @ 7:00 pm, join us for a 4 week Bible Study that explores the people and the events that surround the manger and
the coming of God's son.
HOLY COMMUNION - As we await the arrival of God's Son, join us on
Sunday, December 21 as our souls are nourished as we share Holy Communion.

Recipe of the Month
Seasonal Sugar Cookies
This
Christmas sugar cookie recipe can be adjusted to make an easy kid's cookie recipe. Kids really enjoy baking and decorating
them -- and eating them!
1/2 cup shortening, 1 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 3 teaspoons baking powder, 2-1/4
cups flour, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Cream shortening well and gradually work in sugar, working very light. Beat eggs and add them.
Sift flour with baking powder several times and add gradually to the mixture.
Chill the dough
thoroughly before trying to roll it out, so you will not have to incorporate extra flour, then roll a small part at a time
on a lightly floured board and shape with cutters.
Or shape dough in a roll and chill deeply for
several hours or overnight; then cut down in thin slices with a sharp knife and bake in a moderate oven at 350°F, for
ten minutes or a little longer if the cookies are thick.
A little milk may be added with the eggs
and more flour used to make this a simple mixture particularly easy for children to make. Of course, this cuts down the richness
considerably.
These cookies can be "sanded" by sprinkling before baking with granulated
sugar (colored red or green if you like), or topped with half a nutmeat, chopped nuts, etc.
Hints for helping Christmas along
• Write up a Christmas card list and keep
it in a safe place so that you can refer to it (and add or delete names) year after year.
• Plan to write your
Christmas cards in early December. Book a date in your diary so you don't forget.
• Overseas mail at Christmas
time takes longer to arrive. Arrange to send cards or presents in the first half of December, to avoid disappointments (and
long queues at the post office).
