Tabusintac Local Service

Has spring finally arrived? The snow is slowly melting and the brooks are

opening up. The river is holding its grip on winter. Salmon season started

on the 15th and lobster season is on May 1st so summer is not far away

The Interpretation Center is getting ready to go in early May. Bids for

construction are being sought and as soon as one is picked we will build.

The Park Trails are just waiting for the final word on finance and will be

 starting.

The first breakfast will start May 17th at the Community Hall and will

      continue until December. 7:00am-10:30am

Come on out for and breakfast and visit with old friends you might not

of seen over the winter.

With the snow melting and garbage starting to show, please stop and

pick it up and keep our community clean!

POEMS

Dust

Dust if you must but wouldn’t it be better

To paint a picture or write a letter,

Bake a cake or plant a seed.

Ponder the difference between want and need.

Dust if you must but there’s not much time,

With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,

Music to hear and books to read,

Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must but the world’s out there

With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,

A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,

This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must but bear in mind

Old age will come and it’s not kind,

And when you go and go you must,

You, yourself will make more dust.

Persevere

Drive the nail aright boys,

Hit it on the head;

Strike with all you might boys,

While the iron’s red.

When you’ve work to do boys,

Do it with a will;

They who reach the top boys,

First must climb the hill.

Standing at the foot boys,

Gazing at the sky,

How can you get up boys,

Through you stumble oft boys,

Never be down cast;

Try, and try again boys,

You’ll succeed at last.

Royal Reader #2

The above applies to gals too. Ha!

Be careful of the words you say

And keep them soft and sweet.

You never know from day to day

Which ones you’ll have to eat.

Tabusintac in the 1950’s & 60’s

Milk in glass bottles.

Porridge.  Yuck!!

Smell of fresh-baked bread.  Eating the crust end of bread hot out of the oven.

Playing “hide and seed” and “kick the can.”

Huge pile of wood in the back yard.  Watching the men cut, split, and pile it.

Sound of wood splitting on the frosty air.

Clean smell of new wood.

Watching cows being milked.  Smells in the barn: heat from the animals mixed with the scent of hay and manure.

Sitting in the middle of a blueberry patch eating lunch.  Bees and horseflies buzzing around.  The hot sun.  Cooling off with a dip in the river.

Picnics on the lawn, in the summer, under the shade of the trees.  Ice cold Kool-Aid, and home made cookies.

Lining up outside the school after the bell rang, the smallest to the oldest.  The teacher saying “Forward.  March.”  The big boys mimicking the teacher as soon as her back was turned.

Singing “God Save the Queen and “O Canada” every morning in school.

The screech of chalk on the blackboard.

Writing hundreds of lines whenever we misbehaved.  “I will not…”

Smell of green powdered floor cleaner in school.

Arbor Day at school.  Planting trees and school yard cleanup.

Thanks to Nancy Avery, Easter for these great memories!

TABUSINTAC RECREATION COUNCIL

We would like to extend thanks to all who volunteered over carnival and to all who came out and showed their support.  We had a great turnout and good times were had by all young and old.  A very special thanks to Dale Harding for looking after the rink this year and to those who helped him out.  It certainly proved to be quite the task with all the snowfall.  Without the rink carnival would not have been possible.  Our annual meeting will be held at the Tabusintac Community Hall on April 28th @ 7:00

Tabusintac Community Center Inc.

At the annual meeting of the Tabusintac Community Center Inc. four community residents were elected as directors. TCCI welcomes Bill Vye, Amanda Simpson, JD Kennedy, and Jim Stymiest to the committee.

Fraser McCallum and Gail Savoy were also re-elected as directors.

At a directors’ meeting held after the annual meeting, directors elected the following to serve on the executive:

Chairman - Fraser McCallum

Vice-chairman - Jody Holmes

Secretary - Gail Savoy

Treasurer - Tanya McEachern

TCCI will continue its work to obtain the remaining amount of monies needed to build the community center part of the school/community center facility.

To date our contributions have included funds to expand the size of the gymnasium and allow for a separate cafeteria in the school. In the early planning stages, the government offered a cafetorium which is a multi-purpose room. It was suggested this would meet the needs of the school and community. But we persevered and prevailed in our argument to have these two areas separate from each other and it will be a benefit to everyone.

TCCI also purchased additional property to assist with the project.

This facility will not only serve the educational needs of our children, it will also serve the community in many aspects. It is a win/win situation for all of us. Your continued support in this project is very much appreciated.
