Joke
An Irishman, by the name of O'
Malley proposed to his girl on St. Patrick's Day.
He gave her a ring with a synthetic
diamond. The excited young lass showed it
to
her father, a jeweler. He took one look at it and saw it wasn't real.
The young lass on learning it
wasn't real returned to her future husband. She protested vehemently about his cheapness.
'It was in honor of St. Patrick's
Day, 'he smiled.
'I gave you a sham rock.'
Trivia
The four-leaf clover is an uncommon
variation of the common three-leaf clover. According to superstition, such leaves bring good luck to their finders
especially if found accidentally.
Clovers can have more than four
leaflets. The most leaflets ever recorded is eighteen. It has been estimated that there are approximately 10,000 three-leaf
clovers for every four-leaf clover.
According to legend, each leaflet
represents something: the first is for, the
second
is for faith, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.
The
Shamrock: a 3-Leaf Clover, is Ireland's
most recognized National Symbol. Here are some interesting facts about the Shamrock:
Before
the arrival of the Christians to Ireland
the plant was sacred to the Irish Druids because the three leaves formed a triad.
St.
Patrick used the Shamrock leaf to illustrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity:
How
one God divided into three, The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. when preaching Christianity to the Irish people.
The
word shamrock comes from the Irish word seamróg or seamair óg, meaning "little clover".
The
tradition of wearing Shamrock on Saint Patrick's Day can be traced back to the early 1700s.
For
good luck, it's usually included in the bouquet of an Irish bride, and also in the boutonniere of the groom.

Tabusintac in the 1950’s & 60’s
When someone in
the community died, “wakes” were held in the family home. Each family
pitching in with loads of food to feed the family over the three days of mourning. The
support and caring continued long after the sod was turned.
Cemetery church
service every summer. Checking out the headstones. Being careful not to step on the graves out of respect.
Old Home Week
every five years. Everyone measuring time by “last Old Home Week or was
it the one before?”
First TV in 1961
or ’62. The wavy lines and rolling picture.
The TV test pattern.
Learning the lyrics
to the commercials. “You wonder where the yellow went when you brush your
teeth with Pepsodent.”
High school graduation
ceremonies as a community event. Decorating the gym before it, and the graduation
dance. Always the best of the year.
Boat rides “up
river” and to Tabusintac Beach. Finding driftwood and building a bonfire. Roasting
marshmallows, usually flavored with beach sand by the time they were toasty.
Wiener roasts
and corn boils on the graveyard beach. Perley and Arthur playing guitar. Pouring wet sand on the coals to douse the flames when the evening ended.
“The Top
Ten Countdown” on TV with “The Little General”, Ron Bourgeois.
Learning all the
words to new hit songs.
Ice storms, resulting
in school cancellations. Sliding “forever” on the icy crust. Walking on top of the crust. The tinkle
sound of ice falling from the tree branches and power lines. The sparkle of sun
glinting off the ice.
Winter blizzards. Thrill of new snowdrifts. Digging snow tunnels and making snow angels in new snow.
( Mmmmm! Not so much of memory now J )
Thanks
to Nancy Avery, Easter for these great memories

A Special Poem
We go this way but once, “O Heart of Mine,”
So why not make the journey worth while,
Giving to those who travel on with us,
A helping hand, a word of cheer, a smile.
We go this way but once, “O Heart of Mine.”
Ah, never more can we go back;
Along the selfsame way, undo the wrong,
Or speak love’s words we knew, but did not say.
Love and best regards to all Tabusintac readers
of the Tabby Tattler. Nellie Harris

Garbage Notice
Your L.S.D. has been
asked to advise residents that wood ashes should not
be thrown at roadsides. Also, leaving food out at roadsides is not a good idea
as it attracts stray
dogs, and residents are complaining of dogs being
over-attracted, some
of which are not always friendly. Come spring,
raccoons, coyotes, and
even bears can be attracted to thrown out food.
Your compliance with
these requests is appreciated
Please be advised that
Garbage day is now on Friday please have your
