Jokes
Hard of Hearing Morris,
an 82-year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later the doctor saw Morris
walking down the street with
a gorgeous young lady on his arm.
A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said
"You're really doing great, aren't you?"
Morris replied, "Just doing what you said, Doctor, 'Get a hot mamma
and be cheerful.'" The
doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said you got a heart mummer
and be careful."
Old
Wisdom After working his farm every day, an old farmer rarely had time to enjoy
the large pond in the back that he had fixed up years earlier with picnic
tables, horseshoe courts, and benches. So one evening he decided to go
down and see how things were holding up. Much to his surprise, he heard
voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was
a group of young women skinny dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his
presence and they all went to the deep
end.
One of the women shouted to him,
"We're not coming out until you leave." The old farmer replied, "I didn't
come down here to watch you ladies swim
or make you get out of the pond naked. I only came down to feed the
alligator."
Moral:
Old age and treachery will always triumph over youth and skill.
Signs
On a Plumber's truck:
"We repair what your husband fixed."
In a Nonsmoking Area:
"If we see smoke, we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action."
Naming patterns
The following was supposedly
a general naming pattern (ie. not a
rule
or written in stone) beginning in the 18th century:
1st son--named after
father's father 1st daughter--named after father's mother 2nd son--named after mother's father 2nd daughter--named
after mother's mother 3rd son--named after father 3rd daughter--named after mother 4th son--named after father's oldest brother 4th daughter--named after father's oldest sister 5th son--named
after mother's oldest brother 5th daughter--named after mother's oldest sister
In
Canada anyway, that this naming pattern survived
well into the 19th century, although there were often deviations, for
example if father's father & father's oldest brother had the same name,
there would be another name chosen for the 4th son, etc. Also there
might
have been name omissions if either parent just didn't like one of the
names they should have traditionally chosen, or if there was a family rift
or quarrel with the person they should traditionally have named a child after.
Memories of Tabusintac in the 1950’s & 60’s
Climbing trees and hanging upside down on the branches
Sliding of the roof of a house or barn until
we got caught!
Building Snow forts when the snow was “pack;y”
Teenage hangout at “Ham’s” The ice water chest filled coka cola chest.
Raymond’s “Restaurant in Neguac.
Booths, The Jukebox, 57 Chevys.
Wings on cars. Brylcream
Large bag of peppermints for 5 cents at Marquis’ store
Beach in summer and digging for clams by hand. “Clam cuts”
Smell of rotting bait at the wharf, Flies buzzing around
The feel of mud between our toes
Watching Fishermen’s nets stretched high between poles to dry
Weeding and watching the garden grow
Eating peas fresh out of the pods still warm from the sun.
Harvest time, Helping dig potatoes and bringing in the crops
The smell of pickles and chow being cooked
To be continued next month.
Thanks to Nancy Avery, Easter for these great
memories

Tabusintac Community
Center Inc.
As many community members are aware, Tabusintac
was not in the
Capital Budget list with the Department of
Education to have the
school/community center built. While disappointed, TCCI is still strongly
committed to continuing to have this project built.
A meeting has been held with MLA Carmel Robichaud
and committee
members will travel to Fredericton on Jan. 22 to meet with Education
minister Kelly Lamrock.
The annual meeting for TCCI will be held in early March.
We thank the community for its continued support
with the project.
We all have to work together to ensure that we will have a new school and community center
built for the entire communities enjoyment and use.
