Nellie’s Thanks
To all who visited me on my 101st
birthday:
I say thank you for being so kind. As I thought of so many coming, I
thought of when I walked along the beach,
and said the white sand
was like many bright, shiny gems. I thought of all you people like the
shining, little gems in the sand, taking your
busy time out to visit me.
It was really appreciated by me. Thank you for the phone calls, flowers,
gifts, and cards. God bless you all.
Nellie
P.S.
A special thank you also to the Local Service District for the beautiful
roses. Thoughtfulness is deeply appreciated

Annie’s Country Store
Another summer has come and gone. The leaves having changed
color,
make for a spectacular view.
Tabusintac is such a beautiful place to be
year-round.
We regret to inform everyone that Annie’s Country Store
will be closing in
a few weeks for the winter. We will reopen the store in the
spring.
The good news is, we have a lot of items marked down, and there
are more
to come. We still have a large selection of chocolate bars
selling 2/$1.50;
you will find lots of candy, excellent for Halloween. In our Scrapbook section,
we have a lot of the scrapbook materials on sale. For example, Bazzill
cardstock is now 50cents, and most of the patterned paper has
been
reduced to .75, .50 and .25 cents. There are many items marked
down as
well.
We may open the store before Christmas with a gift shop. You
will be able to
purchase jewellery, crafts, new scrapbook supplies, and other
gift items.
Please keep an eye on the Tabby Tattler for upcoming information.
We will
post an opening sign in front of the store as well.
We would sincerely like to thank all our customers for their
loyal support over
the years. You have truly made Annie’s Country Store
a great place to be.
Thank you so much.

Nature Conservancy Bird Survey
Thank you to all who participated in the volunteer birding event held last Saturday in
Tabusintac. It was a great success! Despite dire weather predictions the sky was clear at dawn on the Acadian Peninsula on Saturday and the torrential downpour
held off until 11am, perfect timing to round everyone up for the wrap up!
12 birders spread out around the estuary and river where they counted 37 different species
and a total of 1310 individual birds!!! I will be sending a complete list of observations to the participants.
If anyone else would like to receive this, let me know and I'll add you to the e-mail list.
Thanks also to those who helped organize, and to the Tabusintac Community Development
Corporation for being wonderful hosts. I hope I'll see you all again next year for a "second annual" Tabusintac Migratory
Bird Survey.
This was the first of 3 volunteer events I'm coordinating on our nature preserves this
fall with financial support form the NB Wildlife Trust Fund. Other events will take place September 29th at Barachois
(near Shediac) and October 13th in Lincoln (near Fredericton). If you would like information about these events please call or e-mail.

Special Fall Special Pick-Up
- October 15th to October 19th has been selected for this year’s fall pick-up.
Two
hunters from Michigan--(true story)
Courtesy of Nancy Easter.
This is from a radio program, a true report
of an incident in Michigan:
A guy buys a brand new Lincoln
Navigator for $42,500 and has $560
monthly payments. He and
a friend go duck hunting in winter, and of course
all the lakes are frozen.
The pair go out on the lake with their guns, a dog, and
of course the new vehicle.
They drive out onto the ice and get ready.
Now, they want to make
some kind of a natural landing area for the ducks, something for the decoys to float on. In order to make a hole large enough
to look like something a wandering duck would fly down and land on, it is going to take a little more effort than an ice hole
drill. So, out of the back of the new Navigator comes a stick of dynamite with
a short, 40-second fuse. These two “Rocket Scientists” do take into consideration
that they want to place the stick of dynamite on the ice at a location far from where they are standing (and the new Navigator) because
they don't want to take the risk of slipping on the ice when they run from the burning fuse and possibly go up in smoke with
the resulting blast. They light the 40-second fuse and throw the dynamite.
Remember a couple of
paragraphs back when I mentioned the vehicle, the guns and the dog? Let's talk
about the dog: a highly trained Black Lab used for RETRIEVING, especially things thrown by the owner. You guessed it, the
dog takes off at a high rate of doggy speed on the ice and captures the stick of dynamite with the burning 40-secondfuse about
the time it hits the ice. The two men yell, scream, wave their arms, and wonder what to do. The dog, cheered on, keeps coming.
One of the guys grabs the shotgun and shoots the dog. The shotgun is loaded with #8 buckshot, which is hardly big enough to
stop a Black Lab. The dog stops for a moment, slightly confused, but continues on. Another shot and this time the dog, still
standing, becomes really confused and terrified, thinking these two geniuses have gone insane.
The dog takes off to find
cover, under the brand new Navigator. The
men continue to yell as they
run. The exhaust pipe on the truck is still hot,
so the dog yelps and drops
the dynamite under the truck, and takes off after
his master. Then --BOOM--
the truck is blown to bits and sinks to the bottom
of the lake in a very large
hole, leaving the two idiots standing there with
"I can't believe this happened"
looks on their faces. The insurance company
says that “sinking
a vehicle into a lake through illegal use of explosives” is not
covered. He still had yet
to make the first of those monthly $560 payments!
And you thought your day was not going
well?

BIBLE
PUZZLE
Adam, God made out of dust, but
thought it best to make me first.
So I was made before a man, to
answer God’s most holy plan.
A living being, I became, and
Adam gave to me my name.
I from his presence then withdrew,
and more of Adam never knew.
I did my maker’s law obey,
nor never went from it astray.
Thousands of miles I go each
year, but seldom on the earth appear.
A soul then from me God did claim,
and took from me the soul again.
So when from me the soul had
fled, I was the same as when first made.
And without hands, or feet, or
soul, I travel on from pole to pole.
I labor hard by day and night;
to fallen man I have great might.
Thousands of people young and
old will by my death great light behold.
No right or wrong can I conceive;
the scriptures I cannot believe.
Although my name therein is found,
they are to me an empty sound.
No fear of death doth trouble
me, real happiness I’ll never see.
To heaven I shall never go, nor
ever enter hell below.
Now when these lines you slowly
read, go search your Bible with all speed.
For my name is written there,
I do most honestly declare.
Answer: The fish that was
prepared to swallow Jonah. It is called a whale in

CALnet
Tabusintac CALP classes are presently
in operation at the Tabusintac Community Center.
Do you want to get your GED but
are not sure how; we may be able to help you. Why not consider attending the free classes offered by The Miramichi Adult Learning
Inc. at the Tabusintac Community Center. These classes operate from 8:30 to 4:00, Monday to Friday. The schedules are somewhat flexible to meet the needs of the students who are
able to work at their own pace.
Statistics show that 80% of CALP
students pass the standardized tests they write.
You may be closer to passing
the GED High School Equivalency Test than you think. You may be surprised at how much knowledge you have gained since you
left High School. The official practice test will help indicate how close you are to passing the GED Test If the test indicates
that you need a little refreshing; we help you with those areas of difficulty.
If you would like to find out
how close you are, why not come to the Center on October 30 at 7:00 p.m. to write the Official Practice test. Follow-up classes
are available for you if you desire.
The GED test is a series of tests
in the core high school curriculum areas of writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. The test measures important
knowledge and skills usually acquired during a regular high school program of study. Tests are made up of multiple-choice
questions testing your ability to understand and apply information; evaluate, analyze and draw conclusions. The writing test
has an essay component.
You must successfully complete
all five tests to obtain a pass standing and be awarded a diploma.
