December 2006/January 2007

We enter the most celebrated season of the year to commemorate the greatest gift God gave to the world, the birth of our Saviour.  Lets us take time to Celebrate, Share and Reflect on the Many Blessings we have in this community.

The year has again been busy as our community grows and we must extend our appreciation to the many volunteers who provide the many programs and opportunities we enjoy plus the many dedicated employees of local organizations, business and self-employed individuals who service and support our needs for the common good.  Perhaps the establishment of the Country Market and the first market Director – Annie Gay, demonstrated the spirit of community that creates a place of opportunity for both social and economic benefit in an environment that feels like home.

In the November 28th. Local Service District –Advisory Committee elections the incumbents consisting of; Reid Wishart, Don Robertson, Bliss MacIntosh, Jack Robertson and Colin Harding have returned to offer their continued support in community service.

To all our all residents, friends, and acquaintances –  at home or away, we extend our warm and sincere wishes for A MERRY CHRISTMAS.

The Tabby Tattler is also available on line at our website www.tabusintac.org

The committee wishes to thank the community for the wonderful support this past year.
We appreciate your contribution to our roof replacement and floor restoration project.

The library and museum plays an important role in the community and your help shows us that maintaining the rich history of the area is important to you.

Again, our thanks and Season Greetings to all.

TCDCI SUGGESTION BOX

Part of the mandate of the TCDCI is to encourage visitors or tourists to visit our wonderful community.   Our initial development plan identified 3 main concerns we felt must be addressed if we want visitors to stay over in Tabusintac rather than just passing through. Naturally, the three requirements were; a place to stay, a place to eat, and something for the tourist to do once they were here.  We feel the first requirement has been met with the Cottage Cluster, the Campground, and Straight Brook Lodge all  providing accommodations.  These facilities also provide an opportunity for visitors to prepare their own meals alleviating the second requirement though we are still pursuing the idea of a small restaurant in the community.  To assist us in meeting the last  requirement we are asking for suggestions from residents and would appreciate any and all ideas for regular or scheduled activities we could provide to our guests.  Although not necessary we would like ideas that would be self sustaining i.e. they would pay for themselves (rental or usage fees) .  There is no obligation to anyone submitting an idea so please feel free to be creative.  Here are a few ideas just to get the juices flowing:

A regular smelt fry                               Strawberry/Blueberry festival

            Ice fishing                                           Hands on activities

Tobogganing or tubing                          Beach parties

Skating parties                                    Corn boils

Lobster boils

If necessary please provide a brief description of your idea.  Names and numbers are not required but would be useful if we needed to clarify your idea.  We would appreciate your ideas by the end of January 2007.  There will be a Tourism Suggestion box set up in the Community Hall for your ideas or you can email them to the office at tablocser@nb.aibn.ca  or contact any of the directors of the TCDCI.  We look forward to hearing from you.

French Language Training

The first course of Beginner Level 1 provided by The Compello Institute of Language wrapped up on 7 December 2006 with a great supper at Chez Raymonds.  We must have learned something on the course as we were all able to order our meals in French and none of us left hungry.  Congratulations to all students for successfully competing Level 1.  Merci beaucoup also to our excellent teacher Monique Avery for her patience, patience, patience, understanding, and treats.  Great job Monique!

If there is enough interest, Nadine Dunn owner of the Compello Institute, is offering to run another Level 1 and/or Level 2 course here in Tabusintac.  Once again she requires at least 10 students for each course and the cost is $150 per student.  The courses will probably start mid to end January.  If you are interested in taking either of these courses please contact Rick Matheson at 779-8067 or Carman Bryenton at 779-8125 by 10 Jan 07.  Bonne Journée!

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that the Traditional Ecological Map is still underway and more personal stories and pictures are needed on certain species that the atlas will display.  It doesn’t have to be a long story but we would like the story to involve something that happened or you have seen in our watershed.  For example:

“…I remember when we would stay overnight on the sand dunes off Seal Gully; we would walk out onto other sand dunes which were below sea-level and feel for the bar clams with our feet.  Once we dug them up with our feet we would put them in a floatable tub that was tied to our leg.  The bar clams were than brought back to shore to be steamed and to be enjoyed by many.”

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 779-1185.

Our drinking water program may be available in the upcoming spring; therefore, if you are interested please call with your information.  We would like to thank all those who came out on our last run and participated. If you would like additional information; do not hesitate to call or e-mail.

In January, we are planning to have a couple of guest speakers in to discuss many different topics about our drinking water.  Signs will be posted around the community with the confirmed date and time.

Hope Everyone Has Safe & Happy Holidays,
