Tabusintac
Community Center Project
When the Tabusintac Community Center Inc. committee was formed in 2002
our mandate was simple; to build a new community center in conjunction with a new community school. During our annual
meeting on March 25, 2010 this mandate was reaffirmed by those in attendance. While we continue to work tirelessly to achieve
this goal, our efforts have been impeded by our current provincial government. In 2006 we were two weeks away from a tender call for the first phase
of the facility when a provincial election was called. The newly elected government, while giving the appearance they
supported the project when we finally had our funding structure in place, back tracked on their lip service, using decreasing
enrollment as an excuse. While supporting us in words, their actions have been sorely lacking. Numerous trips
have been made to Fredericton for meetings that gave us false hope but amounted to nothing. We lost significant donations
due to a lack of commitment from this government and possibly future donations. Despite government speculation regarding enrollment, with their guesstimated
numbers as low as 35 students in September 2010, we are, despite setbacks, holding strong at 71 for this coming fall semester.
With that said, we are confident that if we have an announcement of a new school, we will only see this number grow, rather
than decline as we are the only english language K-8 school on the Acadian Peninsula. While we trust
you are frustrated with this update, know that we share your frustration. We as a committee remain undaunted in our
continued efforts to realize this goal of a new school and community center for Tabusintac. We welcome
your support and encourage you to e-mail our current elective representatives:
